Virtual World Development

From 2006 - 2013 I worked with the virtual world development companies Involve (formerly Infinite Vision Media) and FireSabre Consulting to create virtual world destinations inside the platform Second Life (SL) and later the game engine Unreal.

My role in these projects was as a lead 3D modeler specializing in prop models, especially those requiring complex geometry or low poly solutions. In 2011 I took over as Creative Director an oversaw all aspects of creative production and managed a small team of artists and developers.

The samples below represent a small collection of work that we created during this time and include artwork from several other team members.

Starlight K-12 Virtual Campus

Developed for FireSabre’s educational grid Starlight, we created virtual classroom spaces and interactive environments for three themed learning zones: Arts & Letters, Math & Science, and The Commons. The experience also included an orientation that taught new visitors how to move, change their avatar’s appearance, and interact in the virtual world.

Initially conceptualized and developed by Ian Tepoot, the previous Creative Director at FireSabre, I stepped into the role shortly after preproduction began. Additionally, I was also responsible for creating the large majority of 3D models as well as many of the textures and concept art.

FireSabre Central

Created to welcome new and existing clients into the virtual world, FireSabre Central included meeting rooms, an event space, gallery walls, and our “Idea Factory” that demoed interactive features and highlighted past projects.

My responsibilities on FireSabre Central were lead modeler on the architecture and props and assistant texture artist. On the Idea Factory I designed the experience and created all of the models and textures.

Miscellaneous Models

During my time at Involve I worked as a modeler on projects for corporate, non-profit, and educational clients. Pictured here are samples from a few select clients:

  • General Electric. Lead modeler.

  • US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Prop modeler, assistant texture artist. Architecture model lead Michael Adams.

  • 7Days Bakery. Lead modeler. Organic characters, pastries, and factory architecture by Michael Adams

  • NBC. Lead modeler, assistant texture artist.

  • The Weather Channel prop modeler, assistant texture artist.

Majority of textures on all projects by Ian Tepoot and the texture team.
